Read any good novels of exploration?

Any recommendations for sci-fi exploring the harshness of exploring new frontiers?

I’m reading The Company, which is a history of the Hudson’s Bay company in Canada and just got through the chapter describing the lives of people living in that region in the 17th & 18th Centuries, and, uh, let’s just say it was uncomfortable. And deadly. In really unpleasant ways.

It has me in the mood for a good ol’ story of rugged exploration.
